ABOUT Soccer Camp

The youth soccer camp started with the first summer camp in June of 2014 hosting 56 players ages kindergarten to 6th grade from throughout the Helena community.    Since then  the attendance has grown to over 130 campers from all over the Birmingham Metro Area.  Players from all skill levels enjoy a fun and challenging week of soccer drills, skill work, game play, and teamwork. The camp's reputation has grown to be known as a great day camp experience for youth soccer players looking to improve skills and have a good time. Organizers are prideful that they can provide this opportunity and help soccer grow in the community.  Adding sponsors each year has allowed us to grow and service the large number of soccer families that depend on us each summer for an affordable place their camper can go and gain in soccer knowledge and skill.

About The Huskies

The program was established when the school opened in 2014.  Since then it has been recognized by area and state soccer associations as having a reputation of developing players on and off the field with competitive skill sets and overall team spirit. The Huskies have had competitive seasons matching up with some of the best teams the state has to offer.  In seasons past, the teams have advanced to area, regional, and even state competitions winning the  Boy's Division of the AHSAA 4A/5A State title in 2016.  Yearly, HHS players earn All Metro, All County, All State, as well as some national recognition, and some go on to play at the college level.

During the annual youth soccer camp two-time state champ coach Clif Naron along with boys varsity coach Klark Sammis, Helena High assistants as well as players will provide age and skill specific training to help improve your player’s skill set and overall game.

ABOUT Coach Naron

Coach Naron is a life long participant in the sport of soccer playing at the club and varsity high school level, continuing play into adult leagues until injury then coaching his children in youth leagues as well as refereeing.  Before coming to Helena Coach Naron was on the coaching staff of the Oak Mountain Eagles where in 2014 the girl's team won it's 3rd 6A State Championship.  He moved to Helena High when the school was established and founded the soccer program at that time. Since then it has been recognized by area and state soccer associations as having a reputation of developing players on and off the field with competitive skill sets and overall team spirit.  In the previous 6 seasons the Girls Program has advanced to area play 5 times and gone to state final four once finishing 3rd overall in 4A/5A State Play. Several of the players have earned all metro, all county, and all state awards.  In 2019 the girl's program was honored by the National Soccer Coach's Association for Academic Excellence with an overall team average GPA of 3.66

ABOUT Coach Sammis

Coach Sammis came to Helena in 2017 taking over the boys program.  Since his tenure began the program has developed a serious and cohesive all about team attitude.  Due to the large number of players in the area the program has quickly developed into 3 levels of play beginning at a Freshman team through Varsity.  The team has experienced big wins against area opponents in the last 3 years and advanced to area play.

Local Soccer Clubs/Training

Our belief is that, to truly develop in the game of soccer, players should participate year round in as high of a competition level as their skill set allows. Always being pushed to excel, always wanting to be challenged.  Players that hope to represent their school or club and eventually go to the next level need many many touches to perfect the foot skills, field awareness, and understanding of the strategies the game of soccer encompasses.  Summer Camps, fall and spring leagues, practicing on your own, and pick up games with friends are all great ways to develop skills.  Below is a small list of local clubs that have great reputations for developing players.
